Squadron Hours:
  1. Squadron official hours are 1830 – 2130 hrs, on Tuesday nights.
  2. If there is an urgent matter outside of these hours that requires immediate and prompt attention and cannot wait until the following Tuesday, contact the Commanding Officer, Captain Willis at rachel.willis@cadets.gc.ca.

COVID Case Reporting:  Cadets who receive a positive COVID test result must contact Captain Willis as soon as possible via email.

COVID-19 Screening:
  1. Prior to leaving home for every cadet activity, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
    1. Cadets must complete the COVID-19 screening for every event (including but not limited to regular training, ground school, drill team, marksmanship, biathlon, trips, etc.).
  2. If the screening result is “go to school/childcare,” go to Squadron Training;
  3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.

Winter Break Standdown
  1. 5 Cyclone Squadron will be stood down for the Winter Break from 21 Dec to 9 Jan inclusive.
    1. The only exception will be marksmanship on 7 Jan.
  2. In order to allow the adult staff a chance to unwind, email accounts will not be regularly monitored.
  3. If there is an urgent matter that requires immediate and prompt attention and cannot wait until 9 Jan, contact the Commanding Officer, Captain Willis, at rachel.willis@cadets.gc.ca.
    1. Emails are monitored around the clock.

Pipes & Drums - Interest Call-Out
  1. Participant(s):   Any cadet interested
  2. Description:
    1. The Cadet Music Program involves instruction in theory, performance, sight-reading and instrument maintenance.  The music program consists of six levels: Basic to Level 5.  Our Pipe & Drum Band builds esprit de corps by performing in many community events including parades and concerts.  Basic and Levels 1 and 2 teach cadets to play in the cadet corps/squadron band for parades and local activities such as Remembrance Day.  Levels 3, 4 and 5 further increase individual skills and develop the ability to teach junior cadets.

Effective Speaking
  1. Participant(s):  All interested cadets
  2. OPI:  OCdt Caswell
  3. Date:  Mon, 19 Dec 22
  4. Time:  1830 – 2000 hrs   
  5. Dress:
    1. Conservative civilian attire
  6. Location:
    1. École secondaire catholique Embrun 1276 St Jacques Rd, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0
  7. Materials:
    1. Your Effective Speaking Workbook;
    2. Writing materials such as a pen and notebook or laptop;
    3. A bottle of water; and
    4. Your voice.
  8. Details:
    1. To provide an opportunity for Air Cadets to increase their self-confidence; and increase their ability to reason, organize and express ideas;
    2. To promote the citizenship component of local squadron training;
    3. To provide a focus at the Local, Regional/Wing, Provincial/Territorial, and National levels, to promote and encourage Air Cadets to participate in an optional activity that will provide them with an opportunity to acquire effective speaking skills through instruction and practice in a structured and competitive environment;
    4. To increase public awareness regarding the citizenship and leadership aspects of the Air Cadet program at the national, provincial and local levels.

Holiday Themed Sports Night

    1. Appropriate sports attire;
    2. Running Shoes;  and/or
    3. Festive clothing (ugly Christmas sweaters, festive hats, etc.)

    1. COVID-19 Screening:
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/childcare,” go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.

Marksmanship
  1. Participant(s):  All cadets who sign up for a relay.

  4. Time:  1600 – 2100 hrs
  5. Dress:
    1. C-5 (FTUs);
    2. Cadets who do not yet have a uniform shall wear comfortable attire for lying on the floor.
  6. Location:
    1. Paul-Émile Levésque Centre 756 Brebeuf St, Casselman, ON K0A 1M0
  7. Details:
    1. Cadets are to wear outdoor footwear to and from the activity and change into their indoor footwear once on site.
  8. Sign-up:
    1. Cadets must sign-up for a 1-hour relay to attend.
      1. Cadets who do not book a relay may not attend.

Regular Training
  1. Participant(s):  All Cadets
  2. OPI:  OCdt Caswell
  3. Date:  Tue, 10 Jan 23
  4. Time:  1845 – 2100 hrs
  5. Location:

  6. Dress: 
    1. C5 - FTUs; or
    2. White shirt and black pants if the cadet has not been issued their uniform.

  5. Location:

  6. Dress:
    1. Conservative civilian attire.

Drill Team

  6. Dress:
    1. Conservative civilian attire with wedge.
    2. Feel free to wear festive attire!
  7. Materials:
    1. A snack; and
    2. A bottle of water.
  8. Details:
    1. Drill is an important part of cadet training. Drill promotes discipline, alertness, precision, pride, steadiness, and the cohesion necessary for success within a group.

Biathlon
  1. Participant(s):  Cadets who sign up
  2. OPI:  Lt Rozon
  3. Date:  Sat, 14 Jan 22
  4. Time:  0800-1300 hrs
  5. Location:  Camp Fortune - Outaouais Biathlon Site - 300 Chem. Dunlop, Chelsea, QC J9B 2N3
    1. Drop-off and pick-up are at the parking lot near the main ski hill before the road heading up to Chalet Des Erables.
    2. Lt Rozon will meet the cadets at the parking lot, and they will proceed up the road to Chalet Des Erables as a group.
  6. Dress:
    1. Appropriate sportswear for the weather (bring layers), a hat, and well-fitting running shoes.
    2. Bring a full water bottle, a small towel and an optional gym mat, all contained inside a small backpack,
  7. Description:
    1. In order to prepare for the biathlon competition on 4 Feb 23, practice sessions will be held at the biathlon competition site.
    2. Food/Water:
      1. Cadets are to bring their own food, snacks and water. The water at Chalet Des Erables is not potable.
      2. Do not bring any food that contains or may contain peanuts.
    3. Clothing:
      1. All cadets must be dressed properly for climatic conditions and must have a hat and gloves for shooting in order to participate.
    4. Health Card:
      1. Cadets must be always in possession of their health card during practices and/or competitions
