Effective Speaking (Virtual)

  7. Description: To provide an opportunity for Air Cadets to increase their self-confidence and enhance their ability to reason, organize and express ideas.

Regular Training Night (In-person)

    1. Marionville Community Centre, 4629 Gregoire Rd, Russell, ON K4R 1E5
    2. Upon arrival, parents are to park at the back of the building and stay in their car;
    3. Cadets will be directed by a senior cadet to the appropriate entrance to use for their bubble.
  6. Dress: 
    1. Field Training Uniform (FTU) with wedge and mask; or
    2. white shirt and dark coloured pants and mask if the cadet hasn’t yet been issued FTUs
  7. Details: 
    1. COVID-19 Screening:
    2. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
    3. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
    4. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form
  8. Materials:
    1. Bring writing materials such as a pen and notebook; and
    2. Bring a water bottle (use of water fountains is not permitted)
  9. Parents:
    1. For reasons of contact tracing and bubble management, parents must remain in their vehicles when dropping off their cadet. 
    2. If parents have questions, staff members will be available in the parking lot to answer them.

  5. Location:

    3. Cadets will be directed to the appropriate entrance to use

    1. Civilian dress; 
    2. Mandatory mask; and
    3. Bring drill boots
  7. Materials: Bring a water bottle (use of water fountains is not permitted)
  8. Details: 
    1. COVID-19 Screening:
    2. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
    3. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
    4. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form
  9. Parents:
    1. Parents must remain in their vehicles when dropping off their cadet. 
    2. If parents have questions, a staff member will be available in the parking lot to answer them.
  10. Description: Drill is an important part of cadet training. Drill promotes discipline, alertness, precision, pride, steadiness, and the cohesion necessary for success within a group.

Level 5 Workshops (Virtual) 
  1.  Participant(s): Mandatory for Level 5 cadets
  2. OPI: Capt Willis 
  3. Date: 20, 22, 27 and 29 November
  4. Time: Dependent on date and workshop (see below)
  5. Location: Teams
  6. Dress: C-5 (FTUs)
  7. Materials: Bring writing materials.
  8. Notes: Cadets have the choice of four (4) workshops:
    1. Workshop 1 - Supervision (0900-1200hrs on 20 and 27 Nov or 1830-2130hrs on 22 Nov)
    2. Workshop 2 - Dynamic Instruction (0900-1200hrs on 20 and 27 Nov or 1830-2130hrs on 22 Nov)
    3. Workshop 3 - Team Building (1330-1630hrs on 20 and 27 Nov or 1830-2130hrs on 29 Nov)
    4. Workshop 4 - Cadet Program Outline - The Big Picture (1330-1630hrs on 20 and 27 Nov or 1830-2130hrs on 29 Nov)
    5. Cadets can sign up and indicate their workshop preferences by filling out this form.
    6. Deadline to register is 22 Oct 21.

Biathlon (In-person)

  4. Time: 1000-1200 hrs *NOTE time change due to marksmanship*
  5. Location: 388 Centralpark Blvd, Russell ON K4R 
  6. Dress: 
    1. Appropriate sportswear for the weather (bring layers), a hat, and well-fitting running shoes. 
    2. Bring a full water bottle, a small towel and an optional gym mat, all contained inside a small backpack, 
    3. plus mandatory mask.
  7. Details: 
    1. COVID-19 Screening:
    2. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
    3. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
    4. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form
  8. Description: Biathlon is an Olympic winter sport, which combines competitive, free-technique cross-country skiing and small-bore rifle marksmanship.  Training consists of strength and cardiovascular conditioning through static exercises, running, and other dynamic activities.
 
Marksmanship (In-person)

  6. Details: 
    1. COVID-19 Screening:
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form
    2. Vaccination Requirement:
      1. The City of Casselman has safety measures in place that require all individuals accessing the Paul-Émile Lévesque Centre provide proof of double vaccination and a government issued ID (eg. health care or driver's license, etc.)

  7. Description: Cadet marksmanship had its roots in familiarization training with the Canadian Forces. Its current focus, however, is on teaching cadets the proper use and safe handling of firearms for recreational purposes only. The marksmanship program has been specifically designed for youth and is based on Olympic-style competition.
 
Poppy Campaign 2021 (In-person)

  5. Location: In-person TBD exact location (locations in Embrun and Russell)
  6. Dress: C3-Service Dress
  7. Sign-up Form: Link
  8. Details: 
    1. Every year 5 Cyclone Squadron provides support to the Russell Legion during its Poppy Campaign.  
    2. This is a good opportunity to help your community and counts for 
    3. volunteer hours for Cadets who are in High School; and
    4. service hours for Cadets participating in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.  

Field Training Exercise (FTX)  (In-person)
  1. Participant(s):  All Cadets 
  2. OPI:  Capt Pascal
  3. Date: Saturday, 6 Nov 21
  4. Time: 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM
  5. Location:  14081 Groves Road, Ingleside, Ontario, K0C 1M0
  6. Dress: 
    1. Field Training Uniform (FTU); or
    2. Appropriate outdoor civilian attire
  7. Transportation: Transportation will depart from Embrun Arena (6 Blais St, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0) at 7:00 AM and return at 6:30 PM
  8. Meals: Meals will be provided.
    1. Details: 
    2. Cadets that have been asked to complete a Detailed Health Questionnaire must submit their DHQ NLT October 26, 2021 in order to participate in this activity. 
    3. Cadets must register for this activity NLT October 27, 2021 using this sign up form 
    4. Medication: Please refer to the medication section in the sign up form.
    5. Equipment List: Please refer to the equipment list section in the sign up form.
  9. Description: Other than having fun doing activities, this FTX will allow cadets to learn and practice basic skills when stranded in the wilderness. Such skills include, first aid, building shelters based on situation, strategies to get rescued, and much more.

Supply of Uniforms

  3. Details: Supply requests are open for this training year. Visit this page for instructions on how to take your measurements at home and submit your request.  Requests are open for:
    1. ​New cadets to receive their initial issue of the full uniform (FTU and DEU)
    2. Returning cadets to request replacements for items they currently have.
    3. In addition to requests, Supply is now taking returns and exchanges.  At this time returns and exchanges will only be accepted from cadets who have placed and order for new items, where the return/exchange can be coordinated at the same time as distribution.  This will be coordinated individually as orders are filled.

    1.  ​Band (Pipes & Drums)

      2. Date/Time: Lessons will be arranged individually by appointment
      3. Location: Virtual
      4. Description: The Cadet Music Program involves instruction in theory, performance, sight-reading and instrument maintenance.
    2. Drone Team
      1. OPI: Capt Tanguay
      2. Date: Wednesdays (start TBD)
      3. Time: 1900 - 2030 hrs
      4. Location: Virtual
      5. Description: The program will lead the cadets to the successful completion of the Transport Canada examination “Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems — Basic Operations” certificate which is based on the standard entitled Knowledge Requirements for Pilots of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, 250g up to and including 25kg, Operating within Visual Line-of-Sight (VLOS).
