Squadron Hours:
  • Squadron official hours are 1830 - 2130hrs, on Tuesday nights.
  • If there is an urgent matter outside of these hours that requires immediate and prompt attention and cannot wait until the following Tuesday, contact the Commanding Officer, Capt Willis at rachel.willis@cadets.gc.ca.

COVID Case Reporting:  Cadets who receive a positive COVID test result must contact Capt Willis as soon as possible via email.

COVID-19 Screening:
  • Prior to leaving home for every cadet activity, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
    • Cadets must complete the COVID-19 screening for every event (including but not limited to regular training, ground school, drill team, marksmanship, biathlon, trips, etc.).
  • If the screening result is “go to school/childcare,” go to Squadron Training;
  • Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.

Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence Applications
  1. Eligibility:
    1. As per CATO 13-16 Annex E, to be eligible for consideration, a cadet must meet the following conditions:
      1. met all requirements of the corps/sqn annual mandatory and optional training programs;
      2. participated in a minimum of three community service events, in addition to those supported by the cadet corps/sqn;
      3. regarded by peers and superiors as exemplifying the model cadet; and
      4. enhanced the cadet corps/sqn through:
        1.  co-operation with peers and subordinates,
        2. comradeship,
        3. promoting goodwill and morale within the corps/sqn,
        4. aiding in the development of group identity and cohesiveness,
        5. supporting and assisting fellow unit members, and
        6. his/her involvement in the local community.
  2. Details:
    1. Legions all across Ontario Command, in partnership with local Cadet and Junior Canadian Rangers Organizations and their sponsors, participate in the Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence Program. The Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence is awarded annually to the Cadet having shown a high degree of participation and leadership in the area of citizenship and in meeting and enhancing the aims and objectives of the Cadet and Junior Canadian Rangers Organization.
  3. How to Apply:
    1. Send an email to Capt Willis describing how you fulfil the above criteria no later than 2359 hrs on 14 Apr 23.

Lord Strathcona Trust Fund Medal Applications
  1. Eligibility:
    1. As per CJCR Gp O 5027-4, the recipient must have a comprehensive knowledge of the activities of the cadet program and must meet the following requirements:
      1. display a high level of physical fitness;
      2. have completed three years as a cadet;
      3. have completed all requirements of their squadron training program in the year of nomination; and
      4. be regarded by peers and supervisors as exemplifying the model cadet.
  2. Details:
    1. The Lord Strathcona Medal is one of the highest awards which can be bestowed upon a cadet/JCR.  It is awarded annually to cadets/JCRs to recognize exemplary performance in physical training as well as their service, performance, example and excellence as a cadet/JCR.
  3. How to Apply:
    1. Send an email to Capt Willis describing how you fulfil the above criteria no later than 2359 hrs on 14 Apr 23.

Regular Training
  1. Participant(s): All Cadets
  2. OPI:  Lt Rozon
  3. Date:  Tue, 11 Apr 23
  4. Time:  1845 – 2100 hrs
  5. Location:
    1. École secondaire catholique Embrun 1276 St Jacques Rd, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0
  6. Dress: 
    1. C5 with indoor running shoes; or
    2. Dress shirt, dark coloured pants and indoor running shoes if the cadet hasn’t yet been issued any uniform.
  7. Details:          
    1. COVID-19 Screening:
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.
  8. Materials: 
    1. Bring writing materials such as a pen and notebook; and
    2. Bring a water bottle.

Ground School
  1. Participant(s):  Any cadet interested in learning about aviation theory 
  2. OPI:  CI Maxwell and CI Cameron 
  3. Date:  Wed, 12 Apr 23 
  4. Time:  1830 – 2030 hrs 
  5. Location: 
    1. École secondaire catholique Embrun 1276 St Jacques Rd, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0 
  6. Dress: 
    1. Conservative civilian attire with indoor running shoes.
  7. Materials: 
    1. Writing materials such as a pen and notebook; 
    2. A snack; and  
    3. A bottle of water. 
  8. Details:
    1. COVID-19 Screening: 
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.

Drill Team
  1. Participant(s): All drill team members
  2. OPI:  Capt Willis
  3. Date:  Thur, 13 Apr 23
  4. Time:  1900 – 2100 hrs
  5. Location:
    1. École secondaire catholique Embrun 1276 St Jacques Rd, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0
  6. Dress:
    1. Conservative civilian attire with wedge; and
    2. A pair of indoor shoes.
  7. Materials:
    1. A snack; and
    2. A bottle of water.
  8. Details:
    1. Drill is an important part of cadet training. Drill promotes discipline, alertness, precision, pride, steadiness, and the cohesion necessary for success within a group.
    2. COVID-19 Screening:
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.
  9. Sign-up: Drill team is no longer accepting new members.

Pipes & Drums Music
  1. Music will resume in May.

Biathlon
  1. NO BIATHLON UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
    1. The next Biathlon practice will be held when the ground has thawed and training facilities have been secured.
    2. Please return all ski equipment as soon as possible.  Contact Lt Rozon to schedule the return of 5 Cyclone ski equipment.

Provincial Air Cadet League (ACL) Cadet Bursary
  1. Eligible:
    1. Open to cadets who will be studying full-time at the post-secondary level during the next academic year.
    2. To be eligible to receive an ACL bursary, cadets must meet the following criteria:
      1. Applicant must currently be a cadet and must also have been enrolled as a cadet in the previous two years preceding the year of the application.
      2. The bursary is open to cadets who are entering or continuing their post-secondary studies.
  2. Details:
    1. $500 per bursary
      1. There are two $500 bursaries available to award to cadets in the Ottawa Valley Region.
      2. Each SSC can submit one cadet application to be considered for the bursaries.
  3. How to Apply:
    1. Send the following documentation to both Capt Willis and Mrs. Kilah Wilson-Allen (chair@5cycloneaircadets.ca) NLT 15 April 23:
      1. Personal narrative;
      2. School report card issued in June of the previous year; and
      3. Letter from your school administrator confirming you are a full-time student.
 
Spring Field Training Exercise (FTX) with 832 SQN
  1. Participant(s):  All cadets
  2. OPI:  Capt Cooper
  3. Date:  Fri 28 Apr – Sun 30 Apr 23
  4. Time:
    1. Drop-off:  Fri 28 Apr 23 – 1730 hrs - École secondaire catholique Embrun 1276 St Jacques Rd, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0
    2. Pick-up:  Sun 30 Apr 23 – 1530 hrs - École secondaire catholique Embrun 1276 St Jacques Rd, Embrun, ON K0A 1W0
  5. Dress:
    1. C5 - Field Training Uniform (FTU); or
    2. Appropriate outdoor civilian attire if the cadet has not been issued their FTUs.
  6. Location:
    1. SAJO (Service Animation Jeunesse Outaouais) 67 Mnt de St André Avellin, Thurso, QC J0X 3B0
  7. Materials:
    1. See the kit list (will be provided closer to the date).
  8. Meals:
    1. Meals will be provided.
  9. Details:
    1. 5 Cyclone will be participating in a joint Spring FTX with 832 Twilick. This is an excellent opportunity for cadets to meet cadets from another squadron, make new friends, and learn survival skills.
    2. COVID-19 Screening:
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.
  10. Sign-up:  Sign-up by filling out this form.
    1. Cadets who do not sign-up by 2359hrs on Tues 18 Apr 23 will not be permitted to attend.

Spring Gliding
  1. Participant(s): Maximum 20 cadets
  2. OPI: CI Maxwell
  3. Date: Sun 7 May 23
  4. Time: TBD
  5. Location: Smiths Falls Airport
  6. Dress:
    1. Conservative civilian attire.
  7. Details:
    1. COVID-19 Screening:
      1. Prior to leaving home, each cadet must complete this COVID-19 Screening;
      2. If the screening result is “go to school/child care”, go to Squadron Training;
      3. Otherwise, stay home and advise Admin by filling out this form.
    2. There is only room for 20 cadets to attend. Priority will be given to cadets who have not had the opportunity to go gliding yet. A waitlist will be formed as necessary.
      1. In the event that there are more than 20 cadets all of whom have never been gliding, priority will be given to Level 1 and 2 Cadets. 
      2. There will be another gliding day in September 2023.
